On October 11, 2014 I had the honor of showcasing my new collection, “Tales of The Jazz Age,” to magazines and press from around the world at the Hudson Hotel in New York. It was such a magical evening and I can’t describe enough how delighted I was by the positive feedback from my guests. My new collection is inspired by the eclectic style of women of the 1920’s. This was time in history when women’s fashion had developed into something controversial more daring than ever before. I found inspiration from the speakeasy night scene, the Charleston dance style and of course the birth of the jazz culture. Without further ado, are some of my favorite shots from the show.
We are so in love with Giuliana’s look on the red carpet during breast cancer awareness event, The Pink Agenda. Giuliana looked ravishing in our Shalimar gown from the Moonstruck Collection. Check out Giuliana’s look and let us know what you think! xoxo
Meet our lovely bride, Linsey who got married in Italy. I had the delight of working on Linsey’s gown hand-making her a Suzanne dress perfect for this occasion. I asked my beautiful Linsey some questions in regards to her wedding and I was touched with what I found. Here is what she had to say:
What was the deciding factor when it came to picking out your gown?
The deciding factor had to be tons of detail. I’m all about the tiny details & I knew Galia Lahav’s work is nothing BUT detail.
What were you looking for with your dress?
Romantic, & vintage inspired. Sexy but still classy. I wanted the poof, but also fitted at the same time. I was lucky enough to meet one of the designers, Sharon, at the time of my first bridal appointment. I chose the ‘Suzanne’ style dress and together we tweaked with the color, added some extra glam & made it it’s own one of a kind gown. It was simply stunning and he went over and beyond my vision! I am still so grateful.
How did you meet your husband?
Angelo and I met each other out one night. He was observing an argument between myself, and a guy cousin of mine. Whispering to me across the bar, Angelo asked if my cousin was my boyfriend, and I disgustingly shook my head “No!” haha After a few attempts of getting me to walk towards him, we met each other half way. Best walk I’ve ever made! He was a true gentlemen. Even tried to save me from my big-bad cousin that night
How did you know he was the one?
We always had fun together, and laughed a lot. I knew there was something special about him right away. He was polite & respectful, and oh-so handsome! I wanted to keep him forever. I think laughter is a key essential to a successful relationship.
How did he propose to you?
As a Christmas present last year, Angelo surprised me with an upcoming trip to Italy. Nine months later, on our second night in Rome, he surprised me again by getting down on one knee in front of the Trevi Fountain. Everyone around was cheering and taking pictures. It was unforgettable & such a special night for us.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
My goodness, the whole day was just a dream! I loved how my gown looked dangling over my terrace in the sunlight with Positano’s enchanting village painting the sky behind it. I loved riding through the town with my father on the way to our ceremony as people were congratulating us and taking photos. I loved walking down the isle and finally seeing my husband for the first time, and how stunning all my bridesmaids looked standing up there. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our family and friends that day, being it was such an intimate wedding. Best idea we’ve ever had, was to get married in Italy!
Introducing our stunning Swiss bride Christa! She is wearing our Zoe gown from The Empress Collection. She looks in pure bliss in her photos. I admire seeing my brides on their wedding day glamorously walking down the isle. Let me know what you think of Christa’s dress! For more photos and beautiful brides have a look at our Instagram page. xoxo
Introducing our stunning bride of the day, Ena. She wore the Suzanne gown on her special day. It was such an honor designing a gown for Ena as she was radiating with beauty on her special day. I loved looking looking through her beautiful photos and seeing how she brought the Suzanne gown to life. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect gown on her. These photos belong in a catalog. I am wishing Ena a life full of happiness and love! xoxo Galia Lahav
Meet Lauren! She is my darling bride with a smile that will warm your heart. I had the pleasure of making Lauren’s dress for her big day and I must say it fits her like a glove. Lauren wore the Fiona from The Empress collection for her wedding. The Fiona is one of our most popular gown with silk tulle lace that cascades to the floor. It was such an honor to look through Lauren’s wedding pictures and see how blissful she and her husband look. Nothing compares to seeing your bride gleam on her wedding day. Tell us what you think of Lauren’s beautiful wedding photos!
There is nothing more amazing than to see my ladies in pure bliss in their wedding gowns. I design these dresses with a vision of how my bride will finally look but no vision that I make can compare to her glowing image on her wedding day. Seeing my bride embodied in ivory lace and holding the hand of the love of her life is magical to witness. Today’s bride is the stunning Ella. She wore the Fiona gown and looks as if her wedding belongs in a catalog. Below are several of my favorite photos that I have seen so far.
So I guess it is safe to say that I have a bit of a wedding alter obsession. It is something about that destination of the magical wedding day being the core that we all look forward to. It is the highlight for all photographers and almost always every brides most photographed wedding photo. It is the alter where two worlds are finally united and where all the magic takes place. I find myself often spending hours looking through photos my brides send me admiring how beautiful they are standing at the alter hand-in-hand with the love of their life. It’s simply something so magnificent to see. If you love this moment as much as I do then you will love to see all the photos I collected of my favorite wedding alter ideas. I would love to get your feedback and see if you love these as much as I do.
In case you missed it, we finally released the second part to our magnificent collection. This is one like never before, full of new surprises and unique details. There are designs that may move you and others that amuse you such as our very first knee length bridal gown, the Naama. Without further ado, it is our pleasure to share with you our sequel collection, La Dolce Vita Part II.
1. What was the deciding factor when it came to picking out your gown?
Well truth be told, I went to a Galia Lahav trunk show and literally fell in love with every single dress. They were all so beautifully made and were exactly what I was looking for. We were doing an elegant, beach chic wedding and I had the dress in my mind that I wanted. I thought I would just know when I found it. The problem is, galia lahav makes too many amazing dresses! I first fell in love with the “Nicole” dress. I thought that was the one until they brought out the “Jasmine”. It absolutely took my breath away. However, the Nicole was still in the running. I literally changed back and forth between the two about 15 times… No exaggeration. I emailed my bridesmaids the various photos and they were even split down the middle. I only had one option… I had to call my fiancé. He grudgingly came into the bridal shop believing it was sac religious to see me in the dress. (There is another story here how I had to convince him but I won’t bore you!)
When he saw me in the Jasmine dress I saw it on his face. He knew it was the one and I knew it too. That was when I knew I found my dress! You guys don’t make it easy to chose just one!
2. What were you looking for with your dress?
I really wanted something backless, form fitted, sexy and elegant that would suit a wedding on the beach. I wanted a dress that was completely unique and unlike anyone had ever seen. Galia Lahav delivered that and so much more.
3. How did you meet your husband?
I was waitressing to put myself through college and he came into my restaurant one night with a group of his friends. (He actually had a date with him that evening!) When I first saw him, I felt this overwhelming feeling that I knew him already. It felt like we were old best friends but the encounter was very cordial and professional. I kept running into him everywhere over the next couple of months. He finally heard I was going to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for my 21st birthday and he mysteriously had a trip planned “the same weekend.” Ten years later, the rest is history.
4. How did you know he was the one?
I knew he was the one from the moment I saw him. The connection between us was powerful and felt almost from another world. I knew he was my soul mate. We had found each other.
5. How did he propose to you?
This is a very long story but I will do my best to summarize!
Our first trip together was to New York. So he decided to plan a trip out there because he had some “work” to do. What he really did was plan an entire fake day in the city for me leading up to the engagement. From the moment I woke up, every person I interacted with was an actor which lead me to the next part of my day. I had NO idea I was being set up and I literally played into every scenario perfectly. (That’s how well he knows me!) Throughout the day we ended up at all the places we went to on our first trip together. I was absolutely clueless to what was going on. I just kept saying, “today has been so weird! Don’t you think it’s been a strange day today? I meant look at the sequence of events!” At the end of the day we ended up at the Oak Room, which is a historical restaurant and bar near Central Park. All of a sudden, the actors started coming forward one by one saying, “hey didn’t I see you at such and such place? Weren’t you the girl I met at blah blah blah.” The final actor came out and said “hey weren’t you the girl that got proposed to today?” And there was my husband on one knee with the ring box open. I was so shocked I couldn’t even speak. I don’t know if I was more surprised that I was set up all day or that I was being proposed to! Obviously I said yes and we celebrated our engagement with a fun filled week in the city.
6. What was your vision for the wedding?
We wanted to do our wedding some place that meant something special to us. We wanted it to be an experience not just a one night affair. We decided to do a destination wedding which allowed us to plan a series of events. We had 5 events over a 5 day period.
My only real vision was that I wanted to take over an entire hotel so it felt like our guests were staying in one big house. It ended up giving our guests a chance to connect and bond. By the end of the week so many friendship were made! Everyone felt like family. It was so special to see!
Once we locked in the destination, all the pieces kind of came together one by one. We had ideas in our head about what an “elegant, beach chic” wedding would look like but it was a very fluid process. We worked with a local wedding planner who was always very honest and helpful determining what would work and what wouldn’t given we were on an island.
So I suppose to sum up the vision, we imagined 160 of our closest friends and family, bonding together over love, fun, laughter, and craziness in a beautiful, magical location.
7. Where did you get married?
St. Barth, French West Indies
This was the first place we traveled to internationally together. We fell in love with the island and try to go as often as we can. We call it our heaven on earth. It is truly a special place
8. Any funny stories that led up to the wedding or happened during the wedding?
Oh my gosh, I don’t even know where to begin! Too many to tell. Many of which may be incriminating let’s just say that one of the groomsmen took it upon himself to MC our wedding festivities. Every day he handed out MVP hats to the best of the best from the party the night before. Everyone was trying to get an MVP hat and was on their A game. It was quite the honor to receive the award! It brought out complete shenanigans in everyone.
Our first pet as a couple is our turtle named PJ. We later learned that in Feng Shui, a turtle symbolizes positive energy and protection. So we’ve always loved turtles and have given each other silly turtle gifts throughout our relationship. When we did our first look on our wedding day I was trembling with emotion as I started walking toward my husband. When we finally saw each other we both burst in to tears and were telling each other how much we loved each other. Then my husband grabs my hand and says, “Anna, look.” A turtle was cruising by us randomly at that exact moment. It was such a special moment!!
The second moment is, after one of the speeches at the wedding dinner, our Dj played a clip of Wonderwall by Oasis. All of our guests stood up, got on their chairs and started singing the words completely impromptu. I looked at my husband with tears strolling down my face, surrounded by so much love, listening to all of our friends singing out loud, “I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do, about you now.” I’m tearing up just remembering and feeling that moment! It was incredible.
10. What’s next?
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes…..
In the heart of New York our stunning bride walked down the isle in her beautiful Galia Lahav gown. We are honored to share these captivating photos from her wedding as she graces the church with her beauty. We love how her dress beautifully falls down the stairs as she poses in her delicate veil. The drama of her photos, the architecture of the church and her ivory dress all add such deep and capturing elements to her wedding. Have a look below and let us know what you think.
Just two weeks ago we had the delight of hosting our wonderful launch of our La Dolce Vita bridal collection and our new Moonstruck evening collection. It was a fantastic experience being amongst some of the most admired magazine editors in the industry and all of our colleagues in bridal. What I enjoyed most of all were the genuine reactions of astonishment we received from our guests as soon as they arrived. Below are some photos taken by BFA NYC and Geremy Dubensky. We had the pleasure of working with many talented individuals who helped us organize this event and we are very honored to say thank you to Baked by Melissa for her delicious cupcakes, Alisha Crutchfield for her styling, our make-up team, nails squad, Pattie for nails, Mathew Curtis and ISO beauty for hair and Organic Gemini for providing us with beverages. All in all, it was a night to remember and we are so thankful for everyone who took part in this magnificent event.
This past month has been a remarkable one by far. We had multiple trunkshows around the globe, two new collection launches (La Dolce Vita and Moonstruck) and a phenomenal fashion show hosted in New York. With so much being done, it is astonishing to take a step back and review all the amazing feedback. This week especially we have been receiving so many kind words from magazines and bloggers but the two that struck us were Cosmopolitan and Elle. We are honored to be recognized for our devotion for bridal couture and couldn’t be more happy with these reviews! I thought I should share them with you incase you missed this. Tell us what you think!
One of the biggest perks of my job is turning these beautiful woman in to brides of perfection. Everything I do here at the Galia Lahav studio is to make these ladies feel like the most confident and flawless woman on her big day. Making her gown is a long and tedious process that takes months and months of work but in the end it is all beyond worth it. There is nothing more amazing than watching one of my ladies evolve into her bridal vision that she has dreamed about since she was a little girl. My job is to make that vision come to life and I do all that I can to guarantee that it does. Take a look at today’s show stopping beauty.
Just the other week I was in Romania for a spectacular show put on by my amazing store Vera Sposa. This was such a delightful experience since it was working with such a stupendous team of people. The brides in Romania were flawlessly beautiful and the atmosphere there was absolutely entrancing.
I spent the first night enjoying a magnificent fashion show of my new collection followed by three full days of fittings with Romanian brides. It was heart warming to meet each of my brides and to get to know them individually. I must give a special thanks to the owner of Vera Sposa, Adina for her remarkable work. She put on such an unforgettable show and I can’t wait for show number two.
Just last week we had the wonderful opportunity to showcase many of our gowns to an amazing amount of English Brides. The timing was perfect since it appears brides are choosing to marry this summer and now is the time to find the gown. We do trunkshows very often around the world but this one in particular was a very unique and essential experience. We were located right in the middle of England in a beautiful city, Northamptonshire. Brides filtered in from all around the UK as we greeted dozens of darling faces from Liverpool, London, Manchester, Ireland, Wales and the list goes on.
Since this was our first UK trunk show and due to the fact that it was such a success it holds a deep place in our hearts. As Galia Lahav started as a small custom design gown shop in Tel Aviv it is bewildering to us that the brand is now identified and adored by thousands around the world. Overall it was a flattering experience and listening to each brides love story until this point of their lives was by far one of our favorite parts. Take a look and see our England trip:
It’s funny how we met…I first saw Chris at a New Years Eve house party. I remember thinking to myself how cute I thought he was, but we didn’t actually speak that time. We later officially met at another house party of a mutual friend and hit it off immediately.
From that point on, we were inseparable! When Chris proposed, it was at his house, in front of the family Christmas tree. He insisted I had to see this amazing ornament which turned out to be a diamond ring hanging on the tree. I was so shocked, I almost forgot to say “yes”. It was by far the happiest moment in my life.
Planning the wedding proved to be more difficult than I thought. I’m quite the perfectionist and planning a large event with 450 guests was hard, yet still lots of fun. Chris and I both come from very large families and have lots of friends. There are so many details that go in to such a large wedding.
My search for a dress was by the far the hardest thing for me. I made several trips to different bridal dress salons, and each time felt disappointed. I never imagined it would be so difficult to find a dress I loved. I searched a lot online for ideas of wedding dresses I liked and each time, I would find myself looking at Galia Lahav’s gowns. There was a slight problem; they weren’t being sold in the states, and I was skeptical about purchasing a dress I had never tried on. When I discovered that Galia would be coming to Roma Sposa in Birmingham, which is where I was dress shopping, I was ecstatic! I had only 3 months until my wedding and had not yet purchased a dress. I made my appointment at Roma Sposa to see Galia’s dresses, and of course fell in love with the first gown I tried on. It was love at first sight, and everything I imagined. Form fitting, lace on top, and a dramatic detachable tulle train. It was perfect! I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders after finally finding the dress of my dreams.
The day of the wedding felt surreal. It is the day that I dreamed about since I was a little girl. It went absolutely perfect. There were so many things I worried over…How will I look? What will Chris think when he seems me at the alter? What if I trip walking down the isle!? What if the party is lame? So many different things were running through my mind, and it all seems so silly now. It was such a beautiful and emotional ceremony. At the alter, I kept thinking to myself how happy I was, that I was marrying my best friend, the one who completes me and understands me. It was the beginning to a new chapter in my life.
After the ceremony, we headed to the reception, and it was party time! I was so relieved when I was finally at the party. The doors to the hall opened, and I was in awe! It was even more beautiful that I thought it would be.
I wanted nothing more than for the hall to feel romantic, and that it was. The theme was cream, and golds, and lots of candles. I love candelabras and tea candles, and was so excited to incorporate that all in to the wedding. The lighting was perfectly dimmed to complement the candles.
We partied all night long. I of course chose a very stylish yet uncomfortable pair of shoes to wear the entire night, and had blisters on the bottom of my feet which prevented me from being able to walk for 3 days following, but it was all worth it! I would do anything to back to that day. It was so fun, exciting, perfect, and beautiful.
Whether it is the glamorous juxtaposing color composition of this gown or the intriguing intersection of the detailed geometric lines, there is no denying its significant beauty that outraged fans on the red carpet. This was a spectacular night filled with celebrities and wardrobe drama along with our special piece on beautiful super model, Micheline Etkin.
I made this dress with the pure fascination of the texture of black diamonds and the pattern of a prism once light is glared upon it. I love complex patterns in addition to fabric fixated on the human body exposing sections of bare skin. We don’t make dresses here at Galia Lahav, we make art through wardrobe. All though it is a still gown, you can feel it’s movement and life through it’s three dimentional texture dancing it’s way around Micheline’s body. It is a lovely piece that I adored creating and was such an honor working with Micheline and the fabulous Oscar De Las Salas.
As you know, we are huge fans of our magnificent brides. The ladies that grace us with their presence have a sense of elegance and poise to them which is what drives our custom designs for each individual bride.
