From the invites to the venue; and it’s especially influential to your cake’s design. “A bride's wedding gown is the ultimate representation of her personal style and emotions she has when she thinks of her big day,” says Maria Nicoletti, owner of Grace & Honey Cakes. “A wedding cake should not just be a literal sugar recreation of flowing fabrics, crystals, and lace, but should also capture the same feelings of femininity, romance, and elegance that the bride felt when she found her wedding dress.” Here, we’ve paired bridal gowns from our latest collections with beautiful cakes and asked top wedding cake designers for their tips and insight on drawing inspiration from your dress for your celebratory dessert.

Appliqué - Judy

Use the most prominent, prettiest detail from your dress in the design of your wedding cake to make it completely unique. “When I design a wedding cake, I’m most excited about being inspired by a detailed element of the event. Whether it be the stationary, florals, or patterns, anything can be translated into a cake design. However, my favorite source of inspiration is the dress,” says Nicoletti. This 4-tiered confection by Grace & Honey Cakes was made up of individual molds of fondant pieced together to resemble the embroidered appliqué on the bride’s gown. This type of technique allows your cake to match the intricate appliqué on a gown like our Judy tulle trumpet dress with delicate floral embellishments.

Embroidery - Camilla

A simple-structured cake allows a cake designer’s expertise to pop, much like on this one by Grace & Honey Cakes, which was directly inspired by our Camilla trumpet gown. This cake features small threads of icing piped into branches with delicate sugar petals to mimic the 3-D embroidery on the silk tulle dress.

Metallic - Aelin

For a showstopper cake, dress it up with the pattern of the metallic embroidery on your gown. A cake like this chic, towering sweet by Earth & Sugar copies the gold-and-sequined petal embroidery on our Aelin shimmery, tulle ballgown.

Bows - Margaret
