Although something as timeless as a wedding gown usually transcends fleeting fashion trends, there remain distinctive design details and silhouettes that fluctuate depending on the zeitgeist. Take, for example, Princess Diana’s voluminous taffeta and lace frock from the 1980s. It fit in seamlessly with the decade’s signature puff shoulders and bigger-is-better embellishments. Or, on the other side of the spectrum, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s sleek, bias-cut slip dress à la 1996 that was minimalist perfection. Both of these bridal moments, though classic in their own ways, also spoke to the trends of the time they were designed during.

In other words, if you’re searching for the perfect wedding dress it’s a smart idea to brush up on the current trends because that’s likely what you’ll be choosing from. From there, you can discover which gown complements your personal taste and style best.

On the heels of New York’s recent Bridal Fashion Week, we gleaned nine striking trends from the Fall/Winter 2020 collections, including our Fancy White assortment of gowns and Collection IX. Ahead, get up to date on the bridal trends of the moment and choose which one of our romantic looks you should wear down the aisle on the big day.

1. High Slits

Anna

You’ve probably been clocking in a few extra yoga and pilates classes leading up to your wedding, why not show off the fruits of your labor a little? A flash of skin by way of a dress slit nods to old Hollywood romance, adding an alluring element to your gown’s silhouette. Plus, it makes it easier to walk down the aisle.

2. Puff Sleeves

G-401

For an effortlessly romantic effect, opt for puff sleeves. The extra touch of volume gives the aesthetic of the gown a dreamy finish. Our G-401 dress comes with detachable tulle and embroidered sleeves, which is ideal for the bride who wants to change it up after (or before) the ceremony.

3. Off-the-Shoulder

Aretha - Discontinued

Off-the-shoulder silhouettes have been the trend du jour over the last couple of years—and for good reason. This flattering detail is universally flattering and gives your gown a hint of drama. Our Aretha incorporates corsetry construction details, which when contrasted with the fluidity of the tulle and organza skirt, makes for a memorable and stunning gown.

4. Belts

G-403

A fashion-forward approach to accentuating your curves is with a delicate belt. Our G-403 feels ethereal due to the thin crystal bow cinched around the reflective embroidered net. An elegantly simple and stylish trend for the bride who wants to feel beautiful but not over-the-top.

5. Dramatic Back

Ella - Discontinued

While a plunging neckline still feels relevant, the dramatic open-back was spotted everywhere during Bridal Fashion Week. The trend translates to any kind of aesthetic, from minimalist to regal romance. Our Ella is crafted from delicate French lace, which makes the moment feel like even more of a statement.

6. Vintage-Inspired Lace

G-404

Lace is one of those ubiquitous bridal trends that never seems to really every go out of style. This time around, vintage-inspired iterations are cropping up in more modern silhouettes. Our gorgeous G-404 is cut from hand-embroidered French lace and features a plunging neckline and horsehair hem.

7. Lace Appliqué Sleeves

Maya

Florals are synonymous with romance, especially when intricate embroidery is involved. Our Maya gown features 3D embroidered flowers over silk tulle, including off-the-shoulder sleeves—a fresh and stunning take on the lace appliqué trend.

In recent seasons, bridal trends are eschewing tradition and incorporating elements that feel unexpected and speak to personal style. Such is the case with metallics. Though wedding gowns are typically associated with an all-white palette, this festive flash feels suitable for a day of celebration. Our G-410 whimsically incorporates sequin embroidery that catches the light in the most festive way.

9. Customization

The entire point of a wedding is making it personal. Everything from the music that’s played to the chosen color palette all the way to the flowers on the tablescape are meant to convey the couple’s taste and sense of style. Naturally, this extends to the bridal look you choose, including your veil. Customization of accessories, including veils, clutches, and heels, are all poised to takeover in the coming year. Thankfully, we have the Ella Veil; a striking piece that can include a word or sentence that’s most meaningful to you.
