Julia’s Love Story Comes to Life in Our Gia Gown

Today, we’re so excited to share the wedding of our beautiful GL Bride Julia, who walked in the dreamlike Gia gown at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort. From the soft breeze to her son carrying the rings, and from laughter-filled speeches to heartfelt moments of love, her day was all about real connections and unforgettable joy. In the following interview, Julia reflects on the moments that touched her, the dress she couldn’t stop thinking about, and what made her feel truly like a bride.

“Then I tried on Gia by Galia Lahav—and it was perfect."

After a year of planning, the first time it sank in was when my husband and I sat down at the reception. We held hands, sipped champagne, and looked around—everyone we loved was in one room, laughing and connecting. It felt calm, real, and overwhelming in the best way.

Then came the speeches. One of my bridesmaids said, “I hope you have as much fun growing old with her as we did growing up with her,” and I just broke down. My sister sang Can’t Help Falling in Love, which reminded me so much of our mom. As she sang, I saw her presence again, and my husband kissed my head while I cried.

My maid of honor sang La Vie en Rose in three languages and reminded us she had been with me on the Bali trip where I first met my husband—without her, we may never have crossed paths. And then my dad—serious and quiet—told me he was proud of me. Hearing that, especially from him, meant everything. He ended with Mabuhay—“long live”—and the whole room echoed it back. That moment—listening to everyone’s words, laughing and crying together—was the most grounding part of the night.

One thing you wish you knew as a new bride? What advice would you give to future brides?
Start your makeup earlier than you think—you’ll want time to breathe and feel like a bride before walking down the aisle. Don’t fight the tears (your makeup will come off!)—just keep a touch-up kit nearby and let yourself feel it all.
If you’re outdoors, plan around the sunset. That golden hour glow changes the entire mood.

Most of all, be intentional with your guest list. You want to look around and see people who truly shaped your life. And on the day itself—breathe, let go, and stay present. That’s where the magic is.

A detail that made your wedding special/unique?
We wanted it to feel like a full weekend, not just one day. The Ungasan Clifftop Resort in Bali was perfect—seven villas for guests, plus spaces for the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and after-party. No one had to leave; it felt like our own private wedding village.

From the vows at Villa Tamarama to the reception at Selatan Lawn and the after-party at Watu Restaurant, everything flowed seamlessly. The next morning we all gathered at Sunday’s Beach Club, swimming and relaxing by the ocean. It wasn’t just a wedding—it was an experience.

"I just smiled and knew this is the dress I’m walking down the aisle in.”

How did you know your dress was “the one”?
As a perfectionist, I never thought I’d have a “this is it” moment. But when I tried on Gia by Galia Lahav, it was flawless. Light, airy, romantic, and timeless, the perfect gown for Bali. Even clamped at the back, it felt made for me. When the wind caught the tulle at our reception, it looked like my dress was dancing in the breeze. It was everything I dreamed of.

How did it feel when you put on your dress the day of the wedding? What was everyone’s reaction?
It felt surreal, like I could finally exhale. My bridesmaids cried and said, “It’s so you.” My dad told me I looked beautiful, which said everything. And when I saw my husband’s face at the end of the aisle, I knew it was all worth it.

Would you have done anything differently?
I wish I had started makeup earlier and maybe asked guests to put phones away during the ceremony. But truly, the love we felt from everyone there outweighed everything. If your day is filled with love, you’ve done it right.

What was your favorite part of the wedding to plan?
Dress shopping was magical! Trying gowns with my bridesmaids is a memory I’ll always cherish. I also loved the styling process. As an interior designer, creating the mood boards and seeing it all come to life was incredible. None of it would’ve been possible without Narelle from Global Weddings and Kylie from Enakai Creative. They were my calm, capable team on the ground in Bali, bringing every detail to life.

How did you meet your husband? How did he propose?
We met in Bali in 2017 on a trip with friends. It felt like fate. By the end of the week, I knew something rare had happened. A month later, I visited him in Sydney, and that’s where it truly began.
Years later, he proposed in the Philippines, my home. After a day with my family, he surprised me with a private dinner by our villa pool. Under the stars, with the waves crashing, he got down on one knee. It was perfect.

How did you find working with the team at Galia Lahav?
I found my dress at Eternal Bridal in Sydney, and the team was incredible, kind, supportive, and genuinely excited for me. At my final fitting, they hugged me and wished me luck as they packed my gown for Bali. It felt like saying goodbye to friends.

How many dresses did you try on before finding it?
About ten. I thought I’d end up customizing something, but once I tried on Gia I didn’t want to change a thing.

Anything else you’d like to add?
One moment I’ll never forget was watching our son carry our rings down the aisle. It reminded me this wasn’t just the start of a marriage, it was a continuation of the love and family we’ve already built. If you’re planning your wedding, remember it will come together. Maybe not exactly how you imagined, but often more beautifully than you hoped.

"When I walked down the aisle, I saw it in my husband’s face. That look...said it all."
