This bridal fashion week, Galia Lahav presented their spring 2019 collection, which redefines their signature couture glamour. Inspired by the current infatuation with royal weddings, the “Queen of Hearts” collection features regal silhouettes, voluminous skirts, and ruby jewel accents. “This is our first collection with many ball gowns, which is definitely new and special for us,” says Sharon Sever, Galia Lahav head designer. Known for bringing sexy silhouettes to bridal, designers Galia Lahav and Sever decided to introduce a little more modesty and tradition into their brand with their latest range of gowns. “We wanted to represent real princesses of the past and present in a modern way,” says Sever. “We also wanted to give our brides looks what are both timeless and fashion forward.”
In addition to dramatic ball gowns—such as the ethereal “Mia” dress with a shimmery crystal-embroidered fitted bodice and full tulle skirt and the multi-layered satin “Imperia” gown with a large Swarovski crystal-bow detail at the waist and hidden pockets—the collection also includes Galia Lahav’s trademark figure-flattering mermaid gowns with deep plunging necklines, low backs, and sheer lace panels. Two standout looks from the collection are the “Lorraine” embroidered-lace trumpet gown with a deep V-neck and sheer back and the “Allegra” French lace dress with a body-hugging bodice and sweeping tulle skirt.
The gowns with detachable sleeves, trains, and overskirts that allow the bride to change her look from ceremony to after-party are highlights of the collection, such as the “Rhiannon” mermaid gown with detachable illusion long sleeves detailed with crochet beaded lace and the second-dress appropriate “Arden” silver embossed column dress with a detachable tulle train. But the showpiece of the line is the majestic Thea dress, blooming with an allover embroidery of organza floral petals, tiny Swarovski crystals, and sequins. For this extraordinary dress, Sever used his couturier expertise. “I couldn’t find the fabric I wanted for it, so I created it,” says Sever. “One day I just took a large piece of paper and sketched exactly what I envisioned, then took the design to an amazing embroiderer who brought it to life.”
These gowns are for the modern bride who wants to make a statement. “Your wedding day is a very big moment in your life,” says Sever. “It’s every girl’s dream and the one day that you get to wear such a special dress.”
