Emily first met her husband, Gabriel, at her friend’s popular NYC nightclub, Green House, which she frequently attended. Before being officially introduced through a mutual friend, Gabriel approached Emily to comment on her leopard Louis Vuitton heels. “My sister would love those, can I take a picture,” he said. From there it spiraled into a crazy six year American-Brazilian love story, leaving the two dating back and forth between New York and Rio de Janeiro.
In 2011, Gabriel flew Emily to Rio de Janeiro for the first time. They went to the Copacabana Palace, and enjoyed caipirinha’s at sunset. Enjoying their romantic evening together, Emily boldly stated that if she ever got married it would be there. From that moment on, Rio held a huge piece of her heart, as Emily always craved the culture, beauty, food, shopping and lifestyle once she was back in New York.
It was June 2016 and six years into their relationship when Gabriel flew Emily to the Sofitel Le Faubourg hotel in Champs Elysees, Paris. After an incredible Persian dinner, the couple took a stroll to the top of the Eiffel Tower, where it was still light out- even at 10 pm! After, when they made their way back to the hotel suite, Emily found a trail of rose petals leading her from the entryway to the bed. The room was filled with candles, flowers and of course macaroons and a bottle of champagne. Then, she looked up and saw the bed, which had “will you marry me?” written out in rose petals. Emily said it was the most incredible experience a girl can feel. To top it all off, the following day Gabriel arranged for a professional photographer and makeup artist to arrive at their hotel room so they could have their engagement photos shot in Paris. It was the most romantic and thoughtful surprise, and left Emily completely speechless.
Emily initially discovered Galia Lahav on Instagram, and she knew right away that she needed a dress by this designer. While she fell in love with the spectacular dresses, what stole her heart was the emphasis on small classic details in every design, yet with a modern and sexy twist. After her engagement, Emily immediately went on to the Galia Lahav website to find the next trunk show, which happened to be at Bridal Reflections. She attended the trunk show and spent three hours trying on gowns until she finally found her perfect match, the GALA 801. This dress didn’t initially catch her eye, but was instead recommended to her by the associate to try it on, on the basis that you can’t judge a dress based on its hanger appeal. Uncertain, she tried it on and sure enough, and it was “The One”. The sample fit her perfectly and it was love at first sight. Most importantly, what Emily loved most about her bridal experience was the custom personalisations she made that made it the perfect one-of-a-kind dress for her. She had always been attracted to the pearl detailing on many Galia Lahav dresses, and knew she wanted to incorporate them into her dream gown. She also made the sleeves detachable, which transformed the dress from “royalty cathedral wedding at dusk to Copacabana chic glam” by evening. The fit and design of the dress was beyond perfect and more incredible than she had ever dreamed of. To top it all off, the beautiful veil was hand sewn by Emily’s mother, to pair back to the lace of her dress.
Just as Emily had always dreamed, the wedding took place at the Old Cathedral in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At first, the pool area at Cipriani, where she had said she wanted to be married, was out of the question. The people in charge of the venue said they had never closed the pool area before for a wedding and the Cipriani restaurant closure was typically reserved for daytime events or the occasional Brazilian celebrity. However, through determination, persistence (a New York mindset) and some Brazilian connections Gabriel had, they were able to make their fantasy wedding come true.
Emily took full control of planning the wedding, and made sure there would be incredible food, drinks and great music to dance the night away. While the language barrier was challenging at times, as well as the cultural differences, she never gave up. Emily worked before and after work each day for an entire year in order to make the event the success that it was.
Overall, her favorite part was seeing how much love and laughter filled their Wedding, and that was the most incredible feeling of her life. Emily still smiles when thinking back to September 3rd, 2017. She also loved getting to travel to Rio before the wedding with Gabriel and her mother to do the final preparations and of course, the food tasting at Cipriani!
Emily said she had the ultimate dream wedding, in which the experience far exceeded her expectations. Her and Gabriel were a united force throughout the planning process, and each moment brought them closer together.
Congrats to this amazing #GLcouple, Emily and Gabriel. Wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness!
