With the Country Music Awards just around the corner, airing on the 14th November 2018, we thought it was time to consider some of our favourite country wedding songs. Just imagine a splendid wedding; where the gorgeous tones of a romantic song wash over the couple as they take their first dance together.

Which top country songs spring to mind for you – which artists? Well, our line-up includes some well known contributions, but also a couple of surprising editions. For example, our first offering is not so much a household name on the mainstream music scene (unlike Taylor Swift), but you’ll likely know this heart wrenchingly beautiful melody.

So, without further adieu, consider our pick of what might be the perfect love song for the first dance at your wedding. All you have to do is sit back and listen.

If Tomorrow Never Comes, Kent Blazy

This song’s melody has been replicated over and over again, on an international scale. One of the most famous versions is Ronan Keating’s rendition. But few know that the song was originally performed by Kentucky-born singer/songwriter Kent Blazy. Take a look at this live performance celebrating the song’s 23rd anniversary (dated 2011).

It's Your Love, Tim McGraw ft. Faith Hill

This slow, soulful ballad has ‘first dance’ written all over it. Performed by country music legends Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the song was an instant hit when it was first released in 1997. The harmonies encompass everything a romantic union should, ideally, be: smooth, tender and comforting – in short, the blend of two strong entities.

Hands On You, Ashley Monroe

This hit song by songstress Monroe was an instant favourite for its flirtatious lyrics and lilting melodic quality. Released this year (2018) by the 32-year-old singer/songwriter, the song has been championed the country (and broader) music community, especially for it’s seductive tone. Yet, within the fun lies an undercurrent of ‘what-might-have-been,’ reminding lovers to take every chance they get.

I Run To You, Lady Antebellum

Lady Antebellum is no stranger to popularity when it comes to creating hit singles. This upbeat, youthful song, I Run To You, is no different. The lively tone of this hit means it would best be heard live – though it doesn’t have to be performed by the band itself! Just picture a beautifully rustic barn wedding and you’re halfway there.

Love Story, Taylor Swift

This song was the instant classic that propelled a 17-year-old Swift into superstardom. The theme of the video was very of its time: it seemed a regency love story was underway – and who doesn’t love costume drama romance?! The song’s lyrics, catchy melody and video would all point towards a youthful expression of love: thus, perhaps a first-dance song for those who are young at heart.
