The 6 Hottest Bridal Beauty Trends — and How to Create Them For Your Big Day

Obviously, you’re the centerpiece of your wedding. (Although, not to take away from the beautiful floral centerpieces carefully selected with your impeccable taste, of course.) But the focus will be on you — your personality, your singular style and your exciting future with your soul-mate — and the gown, the shoes, the jewels and glam are sublime accents to highlight you.

While you’ve probably assessed all the upcoming seasonal trends to narrow down (or already choose) your dream wedding dress, what about what’s the hottest when it comes to bridal beauty? Because maybe a slick of the chicest lip color could enhance the icy pink undertones on your floral-covered and off-the-shoulder House of Couture gown. Or soft, dewy iridescence on your cheekbones would complement the glimmering beading on your ‘20s-inspired Gala after-party dress.

So we consulted an expert makeup artist at the top of his game to share must-do bridal beauty trends for the upcoming season: New York and Los Angeles-based makeup artist Tomy Rivero. His work has graced the pages of top magazine editorials, ad campaigns and celebrity red carpet roundups, plus New York Fashion Week runways. He also designs beauty looks for TV and film, including the award-winning Mozart in the Jungle and Bel Canto starring Julianne Moore.

Iridescent Highlights

Au revoir contouring and bonjour fresh, subtle “pearlized highlights” on the cheek. Rivero suggests using “an illuminating fluid instead of a powder highlighter,” like ICONIC London Illuminator in the champagne shimmer shade, Original. Apply a layer using a damp Beauty Blender before your foundation. “Pad the highlighter onto the high planes of the face wherever you want to highlight,” he says. “Repeat this process once you’ve done your makeup as a finishing touch to add a pop.”

High Shine, Heavy Metal Lip

Kiss the meticulously applied and overdone “matte pouts” goodbye and welcome in an “elegant sheen that makes the lips look cushiony” for the upcoming season. Rivero likes Pat McGrath Labs Lust: Gloss in Bronze Temptation and Lush Pink Beige.

False Strip Lashes

“Falsies are getting so good!” says Rivero, who prefers the store-bought strip lashes over individuals and even semi-permanent extensions for fluttery, high-impact lashes ideal for your superstar-moment. “They look beautiful and opens up the eyes in photos creating a lift effect. Plus, they’re less of a commitment. When I want incredible eyelashes that go undetectable on camera — and in person — I trust The Wedding Lash by Lily Lashes.”

Body Shimmer

Think J. Lo in St. Tropez: A flawless, glimmering, golden glow on your shoulders, décolletage and legs that would look show-stopping on a dress with high-slits and cut-outs in all the right places. (Think of the ‘gram!) But caveat: “Everyone is afraid of color products staining because they are trying to preserve their wedding dresses,” explains Rivero, who came up with a genius solution. “I mix unscented body cream and Danessa Myricks Beauty Enlight Illuminators loose powder for a seamless no-transfer glow.”

No Makeup, Makeup

“Bare skin and all about the eyes,” says Rivero. “More and more brides are going nude” — when it comes to a fresh, makeup-free (or makeup-free-looking) face that is. He suggests first prepping the skin with Tata Harper Rejuvenating Serum and La Mer The Treatment Lotion for a moisturized dewy complexion. Then, sparingly dot on dry concealer, like the stick by Clé de Peau, on any spots you want to smooth out. The pared down look would perfectly complement a romantic, vintage-inspired wedding dress.

The Secret to a Worry-Free Night

“A great powder and setting spray is key,” says Rivero, who recommends semi-matte Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Compact powder foundation and Milani Make It Last Setting Spray. So dance the night away without another thought. “No touch ups needed!”
