Inspired by the beauty reflected from within, like light bouncing off a brilliant white diamond, the Fall 2020 “Fancy White” Galia Lahav Couture Collection celebrates individuality and the self-confidence that every woman strives for on her wedding day. Layers of gossamer fabrics and embellished laces tell a story about each gown’s inspiration—much like the multiple layers of a woman’s personality playing a part in her unique and individual story. This season is about reflecting and discovering what truly matters.
Adding to the highly anticipated debut of this season’s wedding dresses is transgender model Valentina Sampaio—the face of the new couture collection. “Sampaio, admired for her courage in revealing her true self, [is] a perfect representation of this collection for the woman who knows she is unique inside and out,” says Sharon Sever, head designer of Galia Lahav. From flowy, soft silhouettes in A-line, mermaid, and ball gown shapes, to layers of airy tulle, silk, organza, and embellished lace and netting, each gown has been modified to be voluminous, yet fluid and modern—drawing upon the “Fancy White” inspiration of light reflection and exposing true beauty from within.
Design details, such as cutouts, thigh-high slits, asymmetrical elements, oversized bows, and shimmery crystal embellishments, make this season feel extra special. Subtle hues of Lavender and Ice Pink, are played up with silver embroidery to cast a romantic and ethereal aura. “These shades are predominant in prisms reflected by light, especially noticeable in diamonds, and the aurora borealis” Sever adds when speaking to the colors found in this new collection. “I love lavender. I love the color; I love how it sounds, I love the scent, I love the flower, and it’s symbolism. And on a personal note, I wore lavender on my wedding day, and it always brings me back to the Luberon mountains in Provence,” says Sever.
The “Fancy White” collection speaks to a beautiful reminder that we are blessed to live in an era in which individuality is celebrated, and authenticity is the only way to express it. “I prefer real to fake, and I believe the only way to wear clothes is when YOU wear them, not when they wear you,” adds Sever. “It’s about the moment you look in the mirror on your wedding day, and you see a perfect reflection of yourself.
