Our #GLBride of the week is the stunning Maria Villarreal, who walked down the aisle in our Maya gown. She and her fiance celebrated their nuptials with a lively destination wedding in Guanajuato, Mexico. In the following interview, Maria shares her favorite wedding moments and how she found her dream dress with us! As told by Maria:

A moment of your wedding day will you never forget?

I will never forget the overall energy felt on our wedding day. Being surrounded by all the people we love that were there to genuinely celebrate our love โ€“ it was the absolute best vibes, and we felt extremely special.ย

One thing you wish you knew as a new bride? What advice would you give to future brides?

Relax, and trust. If possible, I would recommend hiring a wedding planner as this will take a big weight off your shoulders. As a control freak, it was hard for me to trust someone else during the whole planning process entirely, but my wedding planner and I connected from the start, he understood my vision and brought me so much peace leading up to the wedding day. On the Wedding day, I was in complete awe as he was able to execute exactly what I had envisioned and more!

A detail that made your wedding special/unique?

We had a band play during dinner time from Mexico called โ€œLeFunk!โ€, who play a mix of soul/funk/disco music. These guys have the BEST energy and know how to have a good time โ€” they basically had everyone up from their chairs during dessert time dancing! We all hovered around the trumpet artist and sang at the top of our lungs, dancing, and having a blast. We forgot about the food, and couldnโ€™t help ourselves, we needed to get up and dance!

How did you know your dress was 'the one'?

I tried on more than 15-20 dresses before finding the Maya dress. I was getting a bit overwhelmed by so many options, and still had 2 more appointments in 2 different cities scheduled. When I tried the Maya dress, I felt it in the pit of my stomach and my eyes automatically filled up with tears. I canceled the remaining appointments โ€“ there were no more dresses I needed to see, I had found the one.ย

How did it feel when you put on your dress the day of the wedding? What was everyone's reaction to the dress?

I felt like a princess in the Maya dress. It really is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen โ€“ It embodied my style in every sense, and when my mom and my husband saw it, they got very emotional. I got SO many compliments on it throughout the whole night.ย

Would you have done anything differently?

Not one thing. It was the absolute best day of my life.ย

What was your favourite part of the wedding to plan/you were most looking forward to?

Since we had a destination wedding, in Guanajuato, Mexico, we knew a lot of our friends/relatives would be flying out to celebrate this weekend with us, so we wanted to make sure we had some fun activities planned for them also on Friday that embodied our Mexican culture. We welcomed everyone on Friday with a โ€œcallejoneadaโ€ which is a celebration in which the newlyweds walk along the streets and their family, friends, and even anyone who’s watching and wants to join in, can. We had SO much fun, I think one of our core memories will be singing โ€œCielito Lindoโ€ down the streets of the city center with our closest friends and family.ย

How did you meet your husband? How did he propose?

I moved to Austin, Texas to go to college at The University of Texas at Austin back in 2014, and the first weekend I moved in, Richard and I met. I went out with my girlfriends to the infamous sixth street, and we met at โ€˜The Aquariumโ€. Weโ€™ve been together ever since!

My husband proposed to me while we were out on a trip to Puerto Vallarta. We were having lunch, and we ordered dessert out to the pool. The chef brought out a small cake with two small ice cream scoops, and the engagement ring was inside one of them! I basically ALMOST ate my ring!

How did you find working with the team at Galia Lahav?

They were such a delight to work with! I had always dreamed of a wedding dress with wings on the straps, and I asked for that custom alteration, and when they were able to incorporate this I was SO happy that I was able to add my own touch to the Maya dress.ย

How many dresses did you try on before you found it?

15-20!
