Say hello to our gorgeous GL Bride of the Week, Alexa! She tied the knot with her love wearing our Fabiana gown from the Alegria collection. The adorable couple's love story began way back in preschool, and they recently celebrated their nuptials in the most romantic way possible - a fairytale wedding. In the following interview with Alexa, she shares all the memorable moments from her special day and why she knew that the Fabiana gown was the one for her. As told by Alexa:
A moment of your wedding day will you never forget?
Getting ready with all of my best friends and putting my dress on. I kept my dress a secret from everybody except my maid of honor and my mom, so it was a huge reveal for everybody and the moment was incredibly special.
One thing you wish you knew as a new bride? What advice would you give to future brides?
My party planner took me, my husband, and my parents into the party room before everybody else so we could have a moment in our enchanted fairytale room to ourselves. I think all brides should do this to soak at the moment and see their vision come to life, as it did for me.
My dress made my wedding special. We also had lots of details from stilt walkers, hora loca performance, giant trees, band/DJ hybrid, girls with champagne glasses on their skirts to take for toasts, special drinks named after our dog Ollie the “Ollietini”
I knew this was the dress of my dreams long before I was even engaged or was in a relationship with Bret. I came across this dress scrolling on Instagram during my freshman year of college, screenshotted it, and manifested that this would one day be the dress I said “I do” in. I think Fabiana is a true reflection of my personality. It is fun and flowy, yet romantic and elegant. Fabiana is absolutely timeless and I feel so lucky that I was able to wear “her” on my wedding day.
How did it feel when you put on your dress the day of the wedding? What was everyone's reaction to the dress?
It felt like an absolute fairytale moment.. I kept my dress a secret and am so glad that I did. The reactions from everybody were absolutely priceless. Most all of my bridesmaids teared up at my first look with them, and Bret was completely blown away. I think the romance and flowiness of Fabiana is truly one of a kind and I joked that I would be wearing it to brunch the next day when people asked about brunch attire. I never wanted to take this dress off and everybody knew how much I love it (her). Another thing to note when asked about an outfit change…It was a hard NO for me. I didn’t even understand the question. I couldn’t IMAGINE wanting to take off Fabiana because there would be no point. Nothing better EXISTS!! If I could wear her forever, I would.
What was your favourite part of the wedding to plan/you were most looking forward to?
Other than wearing my dress and marrying Bret, I was most looking forward to eating our wedding cake, we chose carrot cake. I also looked forward to all of our favorite people being in the same room together to celebrate such a special day in our life.
How did you meet your husband? How did he propose?
We met in PRESCHOOL!!!!!!!! I always remembered him as my preschool boyfriend! Our moms would set up playdates for us and my mom told me I would come home and say “some boy is chasing me on the playground” it was Bret of course.
We went to different schools but always stayed in touch thru Facebook. (our wall to wall is quite funny) he confessed his love for me on my Facebook wall in 2009!! haha!! But we rekindled our “relationship” the summer after graduating college and it was a full circle moment. He proposed in Bethany Beach Delaware, on the beach where we spend our summers with my family.
How did you find working with the team at Galia Lahav?
5-star service. I had a vision of my skirt being more sheer and right in the fitting room my seamstress got out big gold scissors and started cutting all of the tulle away. Yes, that was a scary moment but I had a vision and she made it come to life. I was told I was their easiest and most fun bride because of my love for this dress.
How many dresses did you try on before you found it?
I knew all of the Galia Lahav dresses by name as they were pulled for me from the racks. My dress consultant thought this was funny. I told her about how I discovered Fabiana in college and knew this would be “the one” but I tried on 5 or 6 simply for fun 🙂 I saved Fabiana for last and knew this dress was always IT for me. 🙂
