We (my mom and I) had scoured the internet for the perfect wedding dress for a month or two before we set out to the first bridal boutique. I knew I wanted something DIFFERENT, but had no idea what that might look like. I was confident that my mom knew what was out there in regard to wedding dresses, so she took the reigns and made our first and ONLY appointment to try on wedding dresses at Kinsley James bridal boutique.

We walked into Kinsley James that day and saw an amazing collection of the most unique wedding dresses that I had ever seen. The fifth and final wedding dress that I ever tried on was the Victoria. I loved the neck line and crazy attention to detail. I immediately knew it was the one! That’s all it took. One bridal boutique, five dresses and the answer was “YES”!

Our Story
Depending on who you ask, the story of “Josh and Savannah” has a variety of opening lines, “sightings” and – inevitably – first encounters…

Clovis High School 2014-15

According to Josh….

As a teacher, the first day of returning to work is always interesting. There’s a lot of clapping and powerpoint slides, as the staff assembles for the first time in nearly two months. On this day, we also get to meet-and-greet, the newest members of the staff. As the administration introduced the newest teachers on our campus, I couldn’t help but notice this beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, sitting with the English Department. At this time, I was single and curious to know, who this person named Ms. G. was.

According to Savannah…

In August of 2014, I showed up to the first day of my new job at Clovis High School. As the newest 9th grade English teacher, I was skeptical of the students, enthusiastic about the opportunity and uneasy about the number of staff members I had yet to meet. I had heard of “Josh Wetzel”, but knowing of one person didn’t seem to ease that “first day of high school” feeling all over again.

October 2014

According to Josh…

Two months later Savannah and I ran across each other on campus. I asked her how she liked Clovis High School and she was positive in her response.

According to Savannah…

It was a few months before I ran into the hard-to-find Mr. Wetzel and the conversation went something like this…

Savannah: “Hey, how’s it going?”
Josh: “Great! How’s the school year going for you?”
Savannah: “It’s going great, but I don’t know how teachers here teach for two hours straight on block days.”
Josh: “Yeah, it’s hard but you’ll get used to it. If you need help finding things to do – let me know!”
Savannah: “Thanks! I will. Have a great day!”

According to Josh…

Fortunately, we were both single, and I thought I would send her an email.

According to Savannah…

Little did I know, October 3rd, 2014 would be the start of something that would last forever and it came in the form of an email. It was straight and to the point and led to “meeting up for a drink” after a Clovis High football game. The football season and Thanksgiving Break gave us plenty of opportunities to meet for dinner, drinks and good conversation. I remember telling my mom and girlfriends, “I don’t know what we talked about for all of those hours – but the time flew by!” And I can honestly say that the next few months flew by in the same fashion!

And the rest is history…

According to Josh…

November and the months to follow, were filled with new adventures with Savannah. There were plenty of “Johnson Specials” and nights in different cities. Eight months after our formal introduction, we went backpacking in the Sierra Nevada’s, lugging around 50-pound bags in the middle of the forest.

When you go backpacking, you get to know someone REAL well….You go days without taking a shower, you only eat processed and dehydrated foods – with the same utensils – and you use nature as a public restroom. Although we did not have the luxury of modern day conveniences, I realized when we got home from the trip, that I was going to marry Savannah because it was clear that we enjoyed each other, even during the most trying of times.

Today, we truly love each other and we love laughing and exploring. We enjoy trying new things, which often lead to memories that we’ll cherish forever. One that always comes to mind was an off-road adventure to find a “gas station” near Reno, NV with Sav and Meredith- which turned into cocktail hour at “The Sasquatch”, a world-class dive bar.

We love to travel to Lake Tahoe and Shell Beach to visit our parents as often as we can. We’ve already compiled an ever-growing list of favorite activities and restaurants in both Lake Tahoe and Shell Beach. Savannah and I have also come up with a list of places that we want to visit around the world – but after looking back at all the places we’ve checked off the list in the past year – I’m confident that no box will be left unchecked over our lifetime together. We can’t wait to spend our special day with you – which we know will be the perfect combination of laughing, loving and celebrating our future!

According to Savannah…

Josh caught my attention from day 1, but my love for him grew stronger and stronger with each day I spent getting to know who he was. I remember sitting on the couch, deep in conversation with him, thinking, “This guy must be telling me everything I want to hear or he really is what I’ve been looking for and so much more.”

Me being “me”, took on planning Clovis High’s Gradfest (Sober Grad) for the graduating seniors and it was throughout the planning and execution of this event that I knew that Josh was the man that I wanted to marry. It’s hard to put into words how I came to this conclusion, but throughout those months he showed me over and over again that he truly was the perfect combination of the following characteristics: supportive, enthusiastic, protective, optimistic – yet- realistic, creative, organized, selfless, hard-working and, most importantly, my biggest fan!

It would be an understatement if I said that I’ve never been more excited about our future together and all of the experiences that will come with it. I’ve found the person that smiles at weaknesses, praises my strengths and makes sure that I know just how much I’m loved at the end of the day!

I couldn’t have been happier wit the Galia Lahav staff and the entire wedding dress experience! Kinsley James was wonderful with communicating details to Galia, as well as to us, throughout the ordering and fitting process. Everyone worked to gather to make sure my dress was exactly what I had dreamed of wearing on my wedding day! Kinsley James provided access to an incredible seamstress and I had multiple fittings to make sure that the dress fit the way it was designed to fit 🙂
